Volunteering

Do something great for others – and yourself

Home > Our Roles > Volunteering

Volunteers help people change their lives every day. Whoever you are, whatever your skills, you can make a difference.

Every year, all kinds of people join us and play a vital role in our work. We welcome the breadth of knowledge and experiences they bring, as well as their passion and dedication.

With care, support and accommodation services in 30 local authorities across London and the South East, there’s likely to be a volunteering opportunity in your borough – or even your neighborhood.

Experience is helpful, but it’s your attitude that’s important. We want you to hit the ground running and be keen to make a real contribution to our work.

Bear in mind that you’ll need to be DBS checked (we can support you with this). And rest assured we’ll provide you with appropriate training and support.

For general enquiries please email us at gettinginvolved@lookahead.org.uk.

What could you do?

People volunteer with us in a range of different ways. You could…

  • help us provide activities for customers in one of our services. Perhaps you have a special skill or interest (e.g. art, music, cookery) that you are keen to share with others.
  • support our central teams, helping our services and providing valuable administration support.
  • undertake supervised support or care work with our customers, helping them to live more independently (dependent on experience)
  • help our customers in the community with practical tasks such as shopping, picking up prescriptions or getting out and about.
  • help us to look after the homes we provide to people – providing practical assistance through building patrols, health and safety checks and room turnaround.

If you have lived experience...

If you’re a current or former Look Ahead customer or have lived experience of the areas where we offer support, you can develop skills, gain confidence, meet people and get useful work experience by volunteering at Look Ahead. We offer a range of opportunities including becoming a peer support, training to be a service quality checker or training our staff based on your own lived experiences. For more information on opportunities for customers or those with lived experience please click here.

Student Volunteering

If you’re a student – perhaps studying social care, psychotherapy, counselling or occupational therapy – you can build up work in placement hours, gain research opportunities, and get direct experience working with people with a range of needs. For more information please email StudentPlacements@lookahead.org.uk.

Corporate Volunteering

If you, your colleagues or wider team are interested in corporate volunteering, you can help us through team challenge days or your organisation’s corporate social responsibility programme. If this is you, please contact Dipte Rapte, our Fundraising and Partnerships Manager, at DiptiRapte@lookahead.org.uk.
