Your service might support people with mental health needs, learning disabilities or those with experience of complex trauma. Alternatively, it could support homeless people or young people leaving care. Whatever the focus, you’ll make sure it’s welcoming, supportive and high quality - somewhere you’d be happy for the loved ones in your life to be supported.
To achieve that, you’ll need to lead and inspire the team, who may well work in challenging circumstances. You’ll encourage them to give their best and provide a high quality service. A lot depends on your ability to create an inclusive, friendly environment for both staff and customers. When people feel happy, supported and accepted, they’ll do their best work, and help customers thrive.
As well as leading teams, managing budgets and encouraging great performance, you’ll be reporting to senior managers and building links with local commissioners, funders and community members. In short, there’s a lot of tasks to juggle, but you’ll relish the challenge and variety. Practical and organised, you’ll take everything in your stride.
At this level, a degree or a relevant Business Management qualification (for example CMI/NVQ level 4) are always a bonus. Equivalent experience and qualifications are welcome, as long as you’ve got what it takes to run an outstanding service. Part of that is being calm, resilient and brilliant with people. But you’ll also need to have managed contracts; met performance targets; and developed teams.
If you want to make sure people in our local communities get the help and support they need, this is your opportunity. Do your best and you’ll soon feel at home in your career.
