Working safely during Covid-19

Home > Life at Look Ahead > Working safely during Covid-19

To protect everyone here during the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve introduced a range of safety measures. Our usual health and safety practices will continue as usual – there’s nothing more important to us than keeping our team and customers safe.

All staff

Our Senior Leadership and Senior Management teams take our response to COVID-19 extremely seriously.

With their guidance, we’re following government requirements to create COVID-secure workplaces for everyone at Look Ahead. We’re also making sure that risks such as staff travel are managed sensibly, taking a flexible approach where necessary. We are encouraging and facilitating staff to take up the vaccine if they feel comfortable doing so as they become available.

Meanwhile, we’ve made sure that all staff can get up to date information from Look Ahead’s Coronavirus Resource Centre: an intranet portal that’s regularly updated with guidance, policies and new information about the constantly evolving situation. The Senior Leadership Team email staff every week with coronavirus updates and how their work may be affected.

We understand that many members of our team may feel anxious at the moment. Everyone at Look Ahead can talk to managers one-to-one and access our 24-hour helpline through the Employee Assistance Programme.

Operations

We’ve reviewed our front line operations and given staff extra support to make sure they’re clear on the safety procedures in their service. We now also carry out individual risk assessments with each team member and give them support on an individual level.

We’ve carried out risk assessments on our services to make them COVID-secure. The aim is to make sure our team can continue to support our customers while maintaining social distancing where possible. Clearly, PPE is crucial, so we’re managing our stocks carefully. We’re also providing training on infection control, PPE and testing.

Our team are classed as essential workers, so we’ll help to arrange COVID-19 tests if needed. We’ve also introduced weekly staff testing in registered services.

Central Services

In July 2020, our Head Office in Westminster re-opened as a COVID-secure environment. We’ve rearranged desks to ensure social distancing; implemented a one way system; and set maximum capacities in meeting rooms and communal areas. We’ve also made sure that desks are sanitised at the end of each day, and the office is deep cleaned weekly. Sanitising gel and wipes are available to staff throughout the building.

For the moment, we’re only opening the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with our team booking desks in advance.

We’ll continue to re-open Head Office in a phased, gradual way, in line with government guidance.
