Our approach is to work closely with each individual, their family and carers, helping them to work towards their own personal aspirations. We foster the skills they need to live independently, to look after their homes and to become part of their local communities.
We help people with a range of learning disabilities, autism and physical health needs. Our services include day support, supported living and registered care services. We also work with customers with multiple conditions, many of who are making the crucial transition to living in the community from a long period in a hospital or mental health facility.
As part of our team, you could be doing anything from ensuring people take medication to helping them wash and dress. Your day may also involve supporting customers in the community – shopping, bowling, art classes – whatever the customer loves to do.
Some may have limited communication skills or display challenging behaviour. Whether you’re helping them gain basic life skills or cope with independent living, you’ll build trusting relationships not just with the individual, but with their family members, carers and the professionals in their life.
While experience is helpful, it’s not essential. We’ll make sure you’re ready and capable with our specialist training. Services tend to be small with staff teams working closely together to help individuals. The work can be intense but as part of our supportive team, you’ll always feel at home.
“In our Learning Disability services, we’re here to enable our customers to be as independent as possible, live fulfilling lives and enjoy a good quality of life. It’s important to always remember that customers are at the centre of what we do, and we’re here to help them make their own choices.
Some customers struggle with speech, but this doesn’t mean they don’t have a voice. Building relationships is key. When we take the time to get to know our customers individually, we can find creative ways to inspire positive change.
Having compassion, empathy and a ‘never say never’ attitude goes a long way. Sometimes the job can be tough, but it is always rewarding. No two days are the same at a Look Ahead service!”
